Tourism

Very few countries in the world might have as varied and contrasting topography, landscape, flora and fauna crammed into a small geographical area like Nepal. Within an axis of around 200 km. from south to north, the terrain of the kingdom rises rapidly from the southern plains to the highest Himalayan range on earth. Many torrential rivers and their tributaries cut deep through the mountains to enhance the contrasts in the topography. The amazing contrasts in bio-climatic zones is often described as an 'ecologist's nightmare'. Undoubtedly, Nepal harbours an outstanding variety and beauty of Nature.

Being a cradle of two of the great civilizations of the world, namely Hinduism and Buddhism, Nepal is also a country of great cultural heritage. The valley of Kathmandu boasts of seven heritage sites listed on the World Heritage list. The birthplace of the Buddha - Lumbini is in the plains of Nepal, south-west of Kathmandu. Though officially a Hindu kingdom, all major religious faiths, including Buddhism, Christianity and Islam coexist peacefully in Nepal, displaying a remarkable tolerance and harmony.

Scenic views of the outstanding natural beauty, a plethora of adventure opportunities based on land, air and water as well as the ancient culture and heritage constitute the prime attractions of Nepal as a destination.
