NewsRemembrance Ceremony for the Fallen Gurkhas during the Emergency16 June 2012
It is to be noted that the Remembrance Ceremony is being held since 2004, with a selfless dedication by Dato' R. Thambipillay, Superintendent of Police (Rtd), who initiated a memorial observance for 28 Gurkhas killed during the Emergency in Perak. Their head-stones at the Royal Ranger Regiment, Tambun Road are well maintained by the War Graves Department through the British High Commission, Kuala Lumpur.
प्रेस विज्ञप्ती - मलेशियामा रहेका नेपालीहरुका लागी नेपाली राजदूतावास, मलेशियाको अनुरोध22 January 2011 बैदेशिक रोजगारीको शिलशिलामा मलेशियामा आएका नेपाली दाजुभाई तथा दिदी बहिनीहरु कार्यरत विभिन्न कम्पनीहरुको कार्य थलो एवं आवास गृह (होस्टल) क साथै नेपाली बन्दीहरु रहेका विभिन्न जेल तथा डिटेन्सन क्याम्पहरुमा यस राजदूतावासले बेलाबेलामा स्थलगत भ्रमण तथा अनुगमन गरी जानकारी लिने कार्य आएको छ | यस प्रकारको भ्रमणक क्रममा रोजगारदाता र नेपाली कामदार बिचको गतिविधिका बारेमा छलफल हुने क्रममा धेरैजसो कम्पनी व्यवस्थापन तथा कम्पनीका प्रतिनिधिहरुले नेपाली कामदारहरुको काम लगनशिलता, इमान्दारिता एवं उनीहरुको जीवनशैलीबाट ज्यादै प्रभावित भएको जस्ता सकारात्मक टिप्पणी गर्ने गरेका छन् | जसका कारण हाम्रो छाती गर्वले फूल्दछ | तर यदाकदा केहि नेपाली कामदारहरुले अनुशासित भएर नबस्ने, आफू र आफू बसेको ठाउमा सरसफाईमा ध्यान नदिने, धुम्रपान गर्ने तथा जथाभावी थुक्ने, मादक पदार्थ सेवन गर्ने, छिमेकीलाई असर पुग्ने गरी होहल्ला गर्ने र नेपाली नेपाली बिचनै आपसी झै झगडा गर्ने जस्ता अप्रिय व्यवहार गर्ने पक्षलाई औंल्याउने पनि गरेका छन् | यस्तो पक्षको जानकारी प्राप्त हुनु नेपालीको लागी दुःखको बिषय बन्न पुगेको र दूतावासको गम्भिर ध्यानाकार्षण समेत भएको छ |
यसै सन्दर्भमा परिश्रमी, कर्मशील, अशल, इमान्दार, मेहनती, अनुशासित र मिलनशार जस्ता शब्द भूषण दिएर एक शुन्दर इतिहाश र किर्तीमान कायम गराएका पूर्खाको सम्मानका खातिर, आफू र आफ्ना सन्ततीको शुन्दर एवं सवल भविष्यका लागी तथा अगामी नयाँपुस्ताकालागी अनुशरणयोग्य वर्तमान तथा भविष्य निर्माण गर्नाका लागी मलेशियाका जुन सुकै स्थानमा रहेर आआफ्ना कार्यक्षत्रमा सक्रिय रहनु हुने सम्पूर्ण नेपाली दाजु भाई तथा दिदी बहिनीहरुले निम्नानुसारको आचारण र व्यवहार गरी र गराई सभ्यताको परिचय दिनु हुनका लागी नेपाली राजदूतावास मलेशिया हार्दिक अनुरोध गर्दछ |

Mr. Lekha Nath Bhattarai, Charge' d'Affaires a.i. addressed the Remembrance Ceremony for the fallen Gurkhas during the Emergency in Malaysia (1948-1960), amidst a function on June 16, 2012 at the Second Royal Rangers Regiment, Ipoh, Malaysia where the mortal remains of the 28 Gurkha soldiers have been buried. The Ceremony was organised by the Wira Association Kinta, Perak led by Dato' R. Thambipillay as organising chairperson. Mr. Bhattarai was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Apsara Acharya Bhattarai.
Addressing the Ceremony, Mr. Bhattarai started with the following famous quote from Sir Ralph Lilley Turner MC:
Stating that the Gurkhas had been an integral part of the British Army for almost two centuries, Mr. Bhattarai dwelt on the legendary bravery, loyalty and dedication of them especially during demanding times whether it was during the two World Wars in the last century or the Emergency in the then Malaya or Confrontasi. Their sacrifices in the Emergency have not gone in vain but have blossomed in the form of a peaceful and prosperous modern Malaysia. He further opined that the remembrance days are special occasions to pay tribute to known and unknown soldiers and their family members, who have left indelible mark in the Malaysian soil and in the hearts and minds of Malaysian people by their bravery and heroism for the cause of freedom, peace and independence.
Mr. Bhattarai thanked the British High Commission in Malaysia for maintaining the Gurkha commemorative sites in Malaysia and for arranging for the Gurkha Bagpipers from Brunei who had held exemplary performance at the ceremony. He also extended thanks to the Commanding Officer of the camp for allowing the use of the camp facility and also for decorating the venue and making the ceremony a memorable one.
Mr. Bhattarai laid a wreath at the cemetery in deep honour of the fallen Gurkha heroes. A Nepali priest chanted sacred hymns from the Vedas, invoking peace to prevail. Similarly, a Christian priest offered prayers to the departed souls. A significant number of Nepali nationals including the Non-resident Nepali Association had attended the Remembrance Ceremony and laid wreaths. Representatives from the British High Commission, Australian High Commission and New Zealand High Commission as well as war veterans from various countries also laid wreaths.
Several foreign participants--the war veterans from all over the world including from UK, Australia, New Zealand and Penang and other places in Malaysia had come from far and wide to remember their fallen Gurkha war heroes.
